Le Frac compared with Xero, QuickBooks and Sage in Ireland.
Prices, reminders, statutory interest and payments: what each tool offers an Irish small business and SME – and what the others do better.
Xero, QuickBooks Online and Sage Accounting are the three tools with usable published prices for Irish small businesses, and all three are widely used by accountants. Revenue’s plans for e-invoicing are covered in our Irish e-invoicing guide.
Assumptions: prices excluding VAT, list prices without promotions, as published on 19/10/2026. Small business = 1 to 2 people, about 30 invoices a month, automatic reminders; SME = 3 people, 2 companies, about 200 invoices a month. Xero publishes its Irish prices in US dollars: we show them as published.

What each option costs a month
Monthly cost excluding VAT of the entry plan that sends automatic reminders, from the published prices, in each vendor’s currency.
| Tool | Small business (1-2 people, 30 invoices/month) | SME (3 people, 2 companies, 200 invoices/month) | How it’s calculated |
|---|---|---|---|
| Le Frac | €8.33 (Essential, annual) or €19 (Small business) | €59 | Two options: Essential for 2 people (2 × €50 a year, i.e. €8.33 a month) or the Small business plan at €19 a month. The difference is mainly the invoice volume: 50 issued invoices a month included in Essential, 300 in Small business (30 invoices fit in both). Small business also adds SMS reminders, payment links in reminders and a customisable reminder sequence; Essential sends email reminders in the standard sequence. SME: both companies included. |
| Xero | $29, $32 from 1/11/2026 | $100, $108 from 1/11/2026 | Starter (invoice limit of Starter not verified); SME: Standard × 2 organisations. |
| QuickBooks | €21 (1 user) or €31 (2 users) | €62 | Simple Start for 1 user, Essentials for 2 or 3; SME: Essentials × 2 companies. |
| Sage | €19 (1 user) or €37 (2 users) | €74 | Start for 1 user, Accounting for more; automatic reminders not verified; SME: Accounting × 2 (not verified). |
Le Frac paid annually: Small business €15.83, SME €49.17 a month (pay 10 months, use 12). Beyond the included invoices: €0.10 per invoice issued.
Xero, QuickBooks and Sage include accounting, which Le Frac does not: the prices don’t buy the same thing.
Why Le Frac
Irish late payment law, worked out
Le Frac calculates interest under S.I. 580/2012 (ECB reference rate + 8 percentage points) and the €40, €70 or €100 compensation per invoice, and adds them to the reminder if you choose to claim them. In Xero this is manual; we found nothing in Sage.
In euro, without an accounting subscription
Prices in euro, and Le Frac works next to the accounting software your accountant already uses.
Several companies, one subscription
SME: up to 3 companies for €59 a month – about the same as QuickBooks (€62) and below Sage (€74) and Xero ($100 to $108) for two companies.
What the others do better
- They do your accounting; Le Frac doesn’t.
- Peppol at Xero, already live in Ireland; Le Frac sends PDF invoices and has no Peppol.
- Free trials of 30 days or a month at all three, plus discounts. Le Frac has no free trial.
- QuickBooks Simple Start (€21) and Sage Start (€19) cost about the same as Le Frac’s Small business plan for one user.
- No card payments or direct debit at Le Frac yet: bank transfer only.
